Black & Decker MSW1000 Ready Wrench

Black & Decker MSW100

The greatest thing about the Black & Decker MSW100 is that it completely eliminates the problem of lost sockets.  It’s our product of the week.

Don’t know about you – but we have a bunch of different socket sets in our workshop, each one missing a few sockets that we’ve lost over time.  By collecting enough sets you know you’ll have the socket you need in one of them, even if that size socket is missing from the others.  It’s almost a comedy how 1 socket set won’t do, because you’ll always wind up missing that socket size that you need.

And how many times have to put your socket set down (maybe somewhere on top of an engine you’re working on), and then tipped the set over, knocking the sockets all over the floor and into places you can’t reach them.  We have, plenty of times.  This tool ends that problem too.

8 Sockets Fit These Sizes

Handles a lot of Torque

This tool is a fairly simple idea that works really well.  All of the sockets are permanently attached to the handle.  The sockets are on rotating heads that snap into place.  An extra advantage is that the heads can be turned to many angles – you aren’t limited to the 90 degree angle of a typical socket heads.

We were surprised by the build quality of that tool.  It’s not a toy or a gimmick.  It’s solid and can take a lot of torque.

One thing we also like is the way the socket size numbers are both engraved onto the tool and then filled with colored ink – it makes the numbers easily readable.  It’s much nicer than the typical socket set where you may struggle to read lightly engraved socket sizes.

This tool features 16 of the most common socket sizes.  The sockets are 6-point, not the cheaper 12-point which is more likely to strip.  Another benefit is the sockets are hollow through to the socket on the other side, able to do the work of a deep socket.

We’ve really come to like having this in our toolbox.  Turns out it takes up a lot less space in there than a standard socket set too!

Skil 2352-01 Power Cutter

Posted by hardwareworld on January 21, 2010

Skil 3.6v Cutter
This cutter is light – it weighs less than 1 pound.

Our product of the week is the Skil 3.6 volt Lithium-Ion Power Cutter.

We have found this device very handy to keep around the house.  It cuts through all kinds of materials up to 1/4″ thick – and once we had it around, we kept finding new uses for it.  It’s amazing how handy this device turns out to be.

One of our favorite uses for this cutter is to open those plastic clamshell packages that so many products come in (see picture).  These packages always seem to be trouble to open with scissors or pocket knives – but this cutter makes surprisingly easy work of them.

One very nice feature of this cutter is the battery.  It has a smart charging system that will not over charge, no matter how long it’s plugged in.  It also has a low self-discharge rate: you can leave it unplugged for up to 18 months, and it will still be ready to cut when you need it.  Not having to constantly charge this device really adds to its convenience.

Great at opening plastic clamshell packaging

A note on the strength of this cutter: If you are used to angle grinders or 110v cutoff tools, this tool is not in the same category.  Instead, this tool is suited to any material you might cut with medium to heavy duty scissors.  The tool provides a huge advantage over scissors in that it’s effortless – it eliminates cramped hands or the struggling to make the scissors cut the material.

Some of our friends with arthritis really love this cutter.  It gives them a whole new ability to work with materials that they cannot achieve with scissors.

Some of the materials this cutter is able to cut  include fabrics, cardboard, window screens, plastic packaging, sandpaper sheets, roofing paper, plastic barrier fencing, wallpaper, carpet, vinyl siding, and plenty more.  We’ve attached a video showing the cutter in action below.

Product of the week pricing for this product has ended, however you can still purchase this cutter at our every day low price: Order this Power Cutter
